FVHXLM HEADER.jpg

An artisanal, locally produced knitwear collection that speaks of the beautiful qualities of mohair, the incredible craftspeople of South Africa and sustainable fashion design through slow and mindful processing. Inspired by the breathtaking landscapes of the Karoo, we pay tribute to our land, the farmers, our Angora goats, traditional handcrafting skills and longstanding friendships.

These are garments that are created to inspire, to be looked after, worn with confidence and passed down through generations.

South Africa, and more specifically the Karoo, is home to the world’s mohair production. The textures, palette and clean silhouettes of this collection is inspired by the unique energy, landscapes and flora of the Karoo. The garments were produced by skilled, traditional artisans in the Eastern Cape specializing in hand-spun and hand-dyed yarn. Each piece is hand-knitted and rich in character, telling the unique story of the maker and the origins of its thread.

Frances & Leandi .jpg

Leandi and Frances have a long-standing friendship. They have shared interests in textiles, sustainable design and working with South African Mohair.Frances van Hasselt has a close affinity to mohair, coming from a family that farm with one of the oldest Angora goat studs in the Karoo. Her business Frances VH Mohair Rugs focuses on growing the South African mohair industry, developing employment and preserving traditional skills in rural communities.

After completing a mohair residency together in Japan, Leandi and Frances were inspired to look at the unique strengths of the South African textile industry.

Leandi’s advocacy and innovation in unique sustainable textile development, paired with Frances’s incredible creativity and affiliation to mohair, led the two in their journey in creating a knitwear collection. This collection aims to inspire a new reverence around the potential of mohair and redefine the narrative of luxury fashion.
